Today we traveled to San Diego for Grandma's services. The first service was at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway. It was a nice service. All of the kids (Pam, Mom, Tim, Dean, and Cliff) got up and said a few words about their mom. It was so nice to hear their wonderful memories of Grandma and what an amazing mother and woman she was. She was definitely full of life and spunk until the very end. We should all be so blessed!
After the reception, the family headed down to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery for the interment. The cemetery is beautiful, resting on the tip of Point Loma overlooking the water. There they had a beautiful ceremony that really touched my heart. The speaker did an amazing job! Each of Grandma's five children released a white dove as they said one word that best described Grandma to them. There was a white wicker basked that had 11 white doves to represent each of her grandkids. We (the grandkids who were there) together opened the basket to release the doves. It was so neat to watch the doves flying back and forth across the cemetery staying in their groups of 5 and 11, eventually coming together into 1 group. We then went to the wall to watch Grandma's ashes be intered with Grandpa's ashes while the bagpipes played.
All the family then gathered back at Pam's house to celebrate, just like Grandma would have wanted.
Merry Christmas!!!
