Grandma Stone was welcomed into the arms of Jesus this morning. She was 88 years old and suffered a massive stroke on Monday.
I met Dad, Kristy, and Doug at the hospital yesterday evening. Mom, Pam, and Cliff were already there with her. I've never actually seen someone so near death before. I was completely shocked and overwhelmed by what I saw. She appeared to be unconscious, but that was probably a result of the drugs they had given her to try to make her more comfortable. Her breathing was incredibly labored and it pained me to see her in that condition. I had no idea what to say or do, so we chatted amongst ourselves to ease the discomfort of silence. We stayed for a little while, told her that we loved her and then left. The five of us (Mom, Dad, Doug, Kris, and I) went to grab dinner. I can't remember the last time just the 5 of us had dined together. It was nice to spend time with them.
This evening we drove down to Pam's house where the family had gathered together. Despite the circumstances, it was good to be with family.
