Keilah has been a hard core thumb sucker since she was an infant. I always knew the day would come when we needed to make her stop and I was not looking forward to it. At her 2 year appointment her pediatrician mentioned that she has a bit of an overbite caused by the thumbsucking and within the last few months I've noticed her bottom teeth shifting. I was putting off making her stop because of the new baby coming--I figured that she would need the comfort that she got out of sucking her thumb.
I noticed today that she has a massive fluid filled blister on her thumb that is now red and irritated around the outside. So tonight we put a bandaid on it in an attempt to get her to stop sucking it, or at the very least keep her from popping the blister and risk getting it infected. Hopefully we can get her to cut back or stop, but I am sure it won't be easy for her.
Merry Christmas!!!

Hi there - I'm just catching up w/this week's posts.
My mom used to put some nasty tasting stuff on my thumb when I was a kid. I have no idea what it was. There must be something on the market for this, don't you think? Spicing the thumb is probably a really natural way to manage the issue. Keilah would be repulsed by the taste and choose naturally to not suck it.
